1. List your top seven character ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your main fixation.
3. Name the movie/show that they're in.
4. Supply photos for said people.
5. Tag seven people.

Here's my list. It's not in any particular order, other than the last three. I have a one-'ship at a time kind of brain, so that explains my number 1, but for the most part, I love my 'ships equally.

7) Ned & Chuck from Pushing Daisies

First of all, I LOVE Pushing Daisies. I watched the pilot three times in the same day just so I could catch and appreciate all the fly-by one-liners. It's witty, imaginative, snappy dialogue, a bit morbid, and all around fun.

I love these two because of their googly eyes for each other, the sweetness in almost-touches (or prophylactic touches) and for the fact that they're in a real and adult relationship even though they can't touch. It's a real romantic love of days gone by, because they can't ever touch.

And besides, you get wonderful and sometimes longwinded dialogue:

Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles: You said you wanted to know who killed me so that justice could be served. See, I don't think that "Justice" was on the menu. Maybe as a side dish, but not as an entrée.
Ned: It was most definitely an entrée. It was a Special of the Day. Could we drop the metaphor?

And for those of you interested, a fic rec: Twice Upon a Time by [livejournal.com profile] kaneko or when the Narrator steps in and makes a few inadvertent changes

6) John Crichton & Aeryn Sun of Farscape

Farscape is an awesome show. I've always referred to it as Star Trek on crack. It's angsty, action-y, funny as hell, creative, and has John Crichton in it. Enough said.

John and Aeryn are the OTP to end all OTP's. They are 6 on my list only because I haven't been that involved in the fandom. I would have loved to watch Farscape as it aired, but right as I got hooked, I was left without a Sci-Fi channel for a few years. But they're still an amazing pair. I like them because even when they're not "together" they make an amazing team. Ben Browder and Claudia Black have AMAZING chemistry and continue to be amazing even when they're transplanted to Stargate SG-1.

fic rec: Little Acorns by feldman. This long and plotty fic is amazing. Takes place after Season 4 and goes AU from there. I love the realness of John and Aeryn's struggles as a couple here. It doesn't go for baddies in the sky as an obstacle to their True Happiness. Instead the fic goes for the real issues that two real individuals have in not only loving each other, but living with each other.

And for smutty fun I read: Scientist, Astronaut, and Nymphomaniac also by feldman. It takes body-switching, gender-bending, raunchy sex to whole new levels.

5) Max and Alec from Dark Angel

I watch these two for banter. They have a great chemistry and make a much favorable contrast to the mopey angst they had in the second season between the on-screen pair of Max and Logan. Max and Alec were fun, bitchy, and entertaining. On-screen, I maintain that they were friends with the potential for so much more. Fic, however, takes it to whole new levels. Heat-fic, people, heat-fic.

There's not a lot of great fic out there, but there is one prolific author who delivers the bantery hottness of Max and Alec like a pro: read anything by [livejournal.com profile] alethialia

4) Buffy and Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

My very first 'ship and I shipped them hard. I don't have much to say any more because it's been so long. I love their sweet innocence in the first two seasons. I love the cruelty of Angelus and Becoming is one of my favorite episodes of anything. I love the distance between them in the third season. I love that they continued to love each other but eventually moved on. I love that they try to be there for each other, even when it hurts. I loved the jealousy between Spike and Angel and maintain that in another life (one we couldn't see on our modern-day screens) the three of them lived it up in as many ways as possible.

3) Kara Thrace and Lee Adama from Battlestar Galactica

For a long time after burning myself out on BtVS and Angel, I didn't 'ship much. Then came Kara and Lee. They had me from the miniseries. Their chemistry is always smokin'. Then there's the angst factor. The hottness factor. The we're-the-last-of-the-human-race factor. There's the Kara-is-insane-and-self-destructive and Lee-can't-help-but-rebel-against-something factor.

I like the early days of BSG for this ship better because of the mystery surrounding the couple. When did they meet? Did Kara meet Lee or his brother (and her later fiance) first? Would they always be pilots together forever?

A lot has happened to those two and through it all, they come back as friends. The best of friends really. And that, the heart of the relationship, is what keeps me interested in these two.

2) Teyla Emmagan and John Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis

I am actively hoping the show never actually takes us near this pairing. This ship is too fragile for the writers of Atlantis. It's much more fun seeing hints of interest on the show and then going home and reading fan fiction. Mostly, I love Teyla. She is wise and serene and can kick your butt if she wishes to. She's funny and intelligent and beautiful. I love John. He is sometimes silly, sometimes scary, a bad leader in the traditional sense, but will inspire loyalty and command like few people can. It feels natural to 'ship them. However, more than reading pairing-fic, I prefer gen fic with a strong Teyla involved. I love the team dynamics. They are my OT4.

fic recs: anything by [livejournal.com profile] ltlj is guaranteed to have adventure, full-team participation, and the occasional adorableness of the team. For a wonderful John, read [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine I really enjoy her exploration of the connection between John and Atlantis. For shipper fic, read anything by [livejournal.com profile] tielan

fan art: works by [livejournal.com profile] pentapus and [livejournal.com profile] ilelibertie are great for their imagination and their often inclusion or focus on Teyla.

and finally,

1) the Doctor & Rose from Doctor Who

I am actively shipping this pair at the moment. They stole my heart a few months ago and haven't let go yet. I love the show for itself, it's fun and entertaining, and that's while I'll keep watching the new series even though my 'ship has had its story told onscreen. But what sold me on it first was the Doctor and Rose

I love the chemistry between Nine and Rose. She challenges him as much as he challenges her: to grow, to learn, to live. They were each other's saving grace.

I love the fun that Ten and Rose have bounding across the universe. Their joy in seeing new things and meeting new people is captivating. Their joy in each other is as well: throughout series two they take almost any excuse to hug or invade each other's personal space.

Doomsday and Journey's End broke my heart. I'll keep reading fic to fix it.

My delicious has all my DW recs if anyone is interested. There's so much out there. I'm sure I could spend an absurd amount of time finding all there is to read. I'll enjoy it too.

And now that's over. It took longer than I expected. Sheesh.

:::sigh::: oh Passion No kidding. Whedon knows how to pack a whump. Becoming usually breaks my heart whenever I watch it. The moment where Buffy realizes that all she needs is herself to defeat her enemy-- powerful.

S2 rocks. It has the most of my favorite episodes. I like Buffy all the way to S7, which I wish had been ten episodes instead of the 20+ they ended up doing. But I will watch the last five just for Fillion as Caleb anyday.

I have no Buffy icon, sadly. So I will use my Firefly icon in Whedon solidarity.

Yeah- I love all 7 seasons myself. S7 is the one I watch least, as it's a bit too epic to really get many of the small character moments I love- however, Chosen is one of my all time favorite episodes, and I watch the scene when all the slayers are waking up whenever I feel the need for a little girl power oomph.

I find it so very crushing that Firefly got canceled, and there are so many questions that will never be answered...

I watched S7 when it was already on DVD and so by marathoning it, I was in the perfect spot to realize how much time they spent on pure exposition! I feel like it could have been better if it was a shorter season just to cut down on that factor. I love that moment in Chosen too, also where Willow touches something beyond herself and doesn't turn evil for it (one of my least favorite story lines on Buffy was magic-as-drugs-to-evilness.) I loved the First Evil as a psychological terror, both in its relation to Buffy and to Spike. Those were the more interesting themes. But yes, there was a lot less character-driven moments than usual.

Firefly is one of my favorite shows of all time. I love Mal Reynolds like no other. I find it heartbreaking that the show didn't get a chance to really stretch its legs. I've managed to snag a bunch of my friends into watching it with me. They're never very impressed until they get around episode 5 or 6 and then they're heartbroken when we get to Objects in Space and find out there's no more!!! That's how I felt! I loved the universe, the politics, the science (space ships with glowyness go fast!) and the culture: Persephone as a riot of color and culture and noise, the Buddhism and Christianity, the English and Chinese, the business, the hardships, the mix of technologies... I just like the whole universe and I miss it sorely.

Yeah- the magic as drugs metaphor did get rather heavy handed at times. At least there was the white witchy Tara, and as you mentioned, the moment in the finale for Willow.

Yeah- I love Firefly for the diverse imagination about the future (unlike some other sci-fi shows I can think of).

And as happy as I was that we got Serenity, I felt so cheated out of so many stories. Like Book- he reminded me a bit of Giles as someone who presents this one serene front, but ends up having this crazy, insane back story- and we never got to see anything about it.

Book and Inara!!! We hardly got anything about what's going on with Inara. Although I have my own theories based on the few hints we did get. I also felt like the men with the blue hands got cheated a bit too. And there was a lot of depth that we missed out on too, how far the conspiracy went, how embedded it was in their society (apparently the Blue Sun corporation and the Alliance were basically the same thing) and all of that jazz.

The movie is essentially the second and third season's story arcs all wrapped up with a couple of bows. Cheated indeed. Although the production values and cinematography were amazing as always. I liked the scale of the movie: so big and fantastic!

I recently saw Serenity at one of the Can't Stop the Serenity screenings in Pasadena. It was one of the coolest things. A bunch of fans in one place. A rather surprising number of people who hadn't seen it. My sister being self-conscious that she didn't have a Firefly t-shirt like half the people attending. And of course the movie, which was awesome to see on the big screen again and particularly with a loving audience enjoying every minute of it and every joke. It was pretty cool. I'm planning on going again next year!
