I love this article. I want to read the actual study instead of the watered down version for us lay people. Read this final quote, I find it really interesting in light of my studies in Peace & War, specifically, new understandings of International relations post-Westphalian-models of nation identity:

"Of course, humans beings are not cooperating angels; they also put their heads together to do all kinds of heinous deeds. But such deeds are not usually done to those inside “the group.” Recent evolutionary models have demonstrated what politicians have long known: the best way to get people to collaborate and to think like a group is to identify an enemy and charge that “they” threaten “us.” The remarkable human capacity for cooperation thus seems to have evolved mainly for interactions within the group. Such group-mindedness is a major cause of strife and suffering in the world today. The solution — more easily said than done — is to find new ways to define the group."
-Michael Tomasello

if there is a hell and if hell is personalized (ie: not just a burning pit of fire) then hell for me will be this:

taking the LSAT over and over again while believing my life depends on it.

On a more interesting topic...

TIN MAN! Heh! Callum Keith Rennie! Remaking of Wizard of Oz! The O-Z. "There's no place like the O-Z" HAHAHA. It sorta cracks me up.

hey, just wanted to let you know, I've done an f-list clean up. Nothing personal, just trying to simplify my life (school is a little draining lately.) Take care.

1. The love between sisters:

Sister: my sister!!!
me: my relation whom I don't speak of to strangers!
or people who know me
but possibly to those other relations who know you. The odds are like 50/50
Sister: mom says you're a brat

2. Fandom Neglect

I haven't watched the past three episodes of Battlestar Galactica. I could be a bad fan.

3. Stargate Atlantis. I want it back. And to be good. Or at least inspire good fanfiction.

4. Studio 60. I have become recently obsessed. I want it back from hiatus. Please don't give up on the American audience. I think, given time, it could be a real hit. Oy. I'm also catching up on 7 seasons of West Wing. The flatmate and I are on Season Two.

5. I may hate the ice storm from last weekend over the NE Coast of the U.S. And it's not because I live there. Or know anyone who lives there. My Mum had a flight to visit me for a week and it was canceled because of the weather. We suppose it was not meant to be. But we both think that sucks.

Quote of Note:
"We don't need Republican roads or Democratic roads. We need roads. We don't need Republican healthcare or Democratic healthcare. We need healthcare. We don't need Republican clean air or Democratic clean air. We all breathe the same air. When California's leaders have worked together, we have accomplished great things."
-Excerpt from California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's inaugural remarks

The line "We all breathe the same air" comes from a speech made by John F Kennedy in 1963.

The entire speech seems oriented towards encouraging a post-partisan or centrist ideology. It'll be interesting to see how Schwarzenegger's second term turns out and if he'll go on to the Senate in future years.

(There's a good article detailing the inauguration of Schwarzenegger in the LAtimes)

Re: Weather Trends and it's affect on the US's attitude towards global warming

Quote of Note:
"“The East Coast of the United States, and particularly the mid-Atlantic region, did not warm nearly as much as rest of globe over the 20th century,” Dr. Mann said. “And that’s where the decision-making is going on.”"

From the article The Ununited States, When It Comes to the Weather by Andrew C Revkin of the New York Times

This is what we call ironic.

Put behind a cut to save your f-list )

On a side note, I'm freezing and I need some new icons. Maybe I will make new ones instead of writing my paper.

Holy crap! It's an actual thunderstorm!!! I'm suddenly so excited and now completely determined not to leave the house today.

There was lighting! And a wicked long burst of thunder. And wow, you know how you count the beats to see how far it is? It's right on top of me. And so... in the time it took me to write this, the rain went from torrential downpour to regular Scottish rain. It's still goin' hard but not sideways anymore.

Heh, if only it there were more thunderstorms in the world...

And the sideways rain is back.

Caption: “We wanted to shake people up and let them know this is a grave situation,” said Bryan Black, an executive vice president with Deutsch in New York. In addition to the print ad, his firm proposed a mock magazine that would be aimed at readers who live in a polluted future.

Check out the article where I found it here or by searching the New York Times for the article entitled: "A Terrible Thing to Waste. Or Try This."

It's one of those days where you don't want to leave the house. I'm afraid I'll get blown away or possibly drown. Hrm. It could have something to do with the presentation I have to give this afternoon. Double Hrm.

I love the Scots.

You think you live in a good area. You think it's safe for a young female to at least walk from one class to another, right?

So wrong.

At least they arrested the preverted bastard.

On a seperate note: RIP KY. You'll be missed, Zen dog.

It is amazing how good Mexican food can taste when you have been deprived for a month.

I'm living in Scotland this year for an exchange program. It has been interesting to say the least.

I'm still catching up on my favorite shows. I keep hearing allt he buzz, but I have been deprived of a television since I arrived here. So now I'm catching up on Stargate Atlantis and I'm hoping Battlestar Galactica will show up on iTunes or I'll find other means...
