I've noticed a lot of people referring to deleted scenes as support for their analysis of many episodes, primarily Kobal's Last Gleaming Part 1. I find this interesting. For me, these scenes were deleted for a reason... They were considered extraneous to the story and were sacrificed to save time, or, (more accurately) they were considered contradictory to the characters.
My example for this would be the scene where Lee is teasing Kara about getting laid. Obviously there's a lot of irony here... Lee teasing Kara about the very thing she's stressed out about. Yah for irony! However, when Lee finds out that she slept with Baltar (instead of...) then he gets pissed? How does that make sense? Is it that she slept with Baltar or just that she didn't sleep with him? Why would he joke about it, particularly since later lines seem to indicate that she's done this sort of thing before (referring to the Major Lee mentioned before the smackdown.) So to juxtapose those two reactions (first: relaxed and friendly about sleeping around, then: you whore you slept with the V.P.!) seems contradictory. So that scene was cut. From my perspective, this felt like the right decision.
So I guess my question is, should they be considered canon? Should we consider them in our understanding of the characters in light of the fact that they were cut, and generally for a good reason
Any thoughts? I'd love to hear what other fans think about this.
